Chaplains only offer what they are asked for, which is really what many churches want, namely, someone to turn the lights on and off, and to marry and bury them—keep things running smoothly, speak an encouraging word for daily living, and offer comfort during times of loss. Pastors, however, are called to more consequential ministry than this.
